Prosthetic Bridges
Bridges consist of spans, which restore the shape and function of the lost tooth, and the elements connecting the span with the pillars, most commonly crowns. The chewing force is transmitted to the bone through the abutment teeth, and the bridge is permanently cemented to the pillars (the teeth adjacent to the gap, properly polished and prepared in advance). Implementation of a bridge irreversibly links the adjacent teeth to the gap.
Bridges are used if:
- the Patient cannot or does not consent to implant treatment,
- the number of missing teeth is not too large,
- implantation of the bridge is made possible by the abutment teeth (which exhibit sufficient strength).
Patients are very quick to adapt to this kind of prosthesis. Bridges can be divided into:
- metal and porcelain bridges – which have all the durability and aesthetic qualities,
- based on zirconium and ceramics.
